TLC continuing to Inspire Local Minds

5 August 2020

In continued support of developing local talent, The Lines Company (TLC) Inspiring Local Minds scholarship programme is now open for applications.

Open to King-Country based school leavers, TLC have three scholarships of $2,000 for each year of study available with scholarships in place for up to three years, meaning successful applicants could receive up to $6,000 each.

TLC chief executive Sean Horgan is excited to continue the successful programme which has seen 15 recipients so far benefit from the experience.

Horgan said the scholarships were designed to invest in local students along with the future of our sector and the local community.

“We need to ensure we have the right skills in place to increase sustainability, productivity, and value on our network in the future and these scholarships are an integral part of achieving this,” says Horgan.

“Our scholarships are aimed at school leavers from our network area who are looking to do further study or training linked to the huge range of skills sets we need at TLC.  We employ around 160 people across our region in roles ranging from communications, to line mechanics, electricians, accountants, engineers, right through to call centre staff so we don’t limit applications to specific types of training or study.”

“TLC is here for generations and we have created a programme that directly benefits the community, our young people and other local employers who may struggle to attract or retain young talent.”

As well as financial support, TLC’s Inspiring Local Minds Scholarship provides recipients with mentoring or work experience opportunities during holiday periods.  Scholarship recipients receive funding before any fees were due, with the fees refundable if they fail to complete their studies.

TLC will award 3 scholarships for the 2021 academic year. The first three rounds of scholarships saw 15 scholarships awarded. A further 3 will be awarded for the 2022 academic year.

Students interested in applying can download an application form here.

All short-listed applicants will be required to attend a face-to-face interview during September with a selection panel. The three scholarship winners will be announced in October.
